Changes ahead

Well, we're going to Washington DC for the summer! David has accepted an internship at the National Institute of Standards and Technology, also known as NIST. David and I are so excited! David will have the opportunity to tour the White House... Unfortunately I won't, but I'm sure he'll tell me all about it. We're really grateful that David's brother John and his wife Janice are willing to let us stay with them while we are there. It'll be fun to meet our new niece Joanna and get to play with Amy and Isaac (their other two children). They live in Gaithersburg, Maryland and it is actually quite convenient because they only live about 3 miles from where David will be working. So, since we only have one car I think we might try to bring some bikes. My dad has some bicycles that he said that we can have, so I think we might go pick them up from Hurricane, get a bike rack and bring them with us! Then David can ride his bike to work or whatever, either way, it'll be fun.

The drive is a little bit intimidating, it's over 2000 miles! We'll be leaving a whole ten days before his internship even starts to make sure that we can take our time and have a few days to recover and enjoy DC before he starts working. The internship begins on May 24th and ends August 9th. I'm going to try to find a job, but I don't know if I'll be able to find one that will allow me to work for only 2 1/2 months, but we'll see. David's sister Hannah (who also lives in DC) suggested that I might be able to find a job as a summer nanny, which would be really fun, so I'll have to look into that. Anyway , we are really excited to have our adventure and I know that it'll be a great experience for David and I, especially David.

I guess right when we get back from our internship my family is planning a vacation in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. So, on our way home we will drive straight there and meet them and have a few days there before we actually go home and move into our new apartment. It's actually pretty convenient that we're going there because David's sister Julia has taken a job there for the summer working in a playhouse doing plays and waitressing. So I'll have to convince my family to go have dinner and a show to see her. It'll be fun.

As of right now, things are pretty busy, we are getting toward the end of the semester and David has had a lot of projects due and tests and papers and everything and I have two tests next week. Pretty crazy stuff, but everything is good.

I think we found an apartment to move into in August, which is good. We will stay in our current ward but we will have an apartment that is almost twice as big as our current one, which will be nice, because our apartment is pretty tiny. And guess what, we won't even have to pay that much more than we do now! And we'll have a dishwasher! Yay, right now we just have a tiny drying rack for our dishes, so doing the dishes is quite the chore nowadays! It'll be nice to move on.

So, I'm going to be starting a phlebotomy class in the beginning of April. Luckily the class lasts 4 weeks, two days a week (conveniently the only days that I would've been able to do), so I'll be finished and certified before we leave for Maryland. I'm really excited about this because then I can get a job doing it in September when we get back. It'll be nice to have a real job and make a little bit more money that I do now. It'll be tough though because for that month David and I won't be able to see one another very much, and that will be hard, but I think it'll work out for the best and then I'll have better opportunities when we get back from the internship.

I'm excited that I'll be finishing up with school in December. I will be getting my associates degree and just calling that good for a while. David graduates next April, so there's no point in me starting a program here when I know that I won't be able to finish it. So I'll "graduate" with my associates degree in December and then I can go back later whenever it works out best for us. We're excited about all the new things that are happening to us and we are happy with how things are going. We're very blessed.

Poor Management

Oh my goodness, this week was so crazy. I had two tests and a paper due. I'm glad that it's all done and that I'm getting to relax this weekend.

So, the management at our apartment complex has been a bit difficult to deal with. We have a property management company and also some onsite management. Over a month ago I sent them an email saying that we had a leaky kitchen sink and it has still not been fixed. Finally after getting ahold of them again and asking them to come this week I got an email from them on Wednesday night saying that they would come the next morning to fix it. Apparently they don't care if we are home or not and they don't really care if WE care or not... Because they didn't ask. So we make sure all the dishes are done and the area around the sink is clean before we go to work and school the next day. While I was at work I received an email from our property management company saying that we now have new management... So our sink was NOT fixed when we got home. Are you kidding me?! I think they might have gotten fired for not doing anything. It would sure make sense to me if that's what happened. So I emailed the new guy and he emailed me back within like an hour! Ok, now that's more like it. He has already made an appointment to come by on Monday when I will be home. Ok this is much better. But I must say, it's about time.

But it's not all good news. In the same email about the new management, they also informed all of the tenants that they will be raising the prices... Again. Starting in September the rent will be raised by $50 a month. Boo! They are also taking away the internet and cable that has been included up to this point. So lame! In order to get our own internet it will end up costing us a lot more and on top of raising the prices, I don't think so! Now, we were already looking into finding another place possibly for next year. Mostly because we realize that we could get a two bedroom for not much more, and especially now. I went and looked at a place yesterday that is just literally across the street from where we are now, in the same ward and everything. It is a two bedroom. Both bedrooms are bigger than our bedroom now. The bathroom has two sinks, there is a dishwasher, the fridge and stove are both only a year old. There is tons of cabinet space and storage and everything. The floor plan is nice and open and it includes internet and cable! My friend Kirsten who lives there said that she loves it and the that the management is SO great! If we moved over there it would only cost us about $50 more. Is that worth it? Yeah, we think so. So we are going to go fill out an application in the next few days for August so that we can ensure that we get a place. I mean really, we would get better management, new appliances (and a dishwasher!), a whole other bedroom, another sink in the bathroom, counter space in the kitchen... There are SO many reasons to move there. I'm a little bit excited so I really hope it works out. I mean, yeah, it's 6 months away, but in Provo you've got to be on top of things like housing, good deals go fast around here.

We still haven't heard anything about internships for David yet, he should be finding out sometime this month where we will be spending our summer. I hope he finds out soon so that we can decide where to go and start planning for it.

Today is both my brother Jeff's birthday and David's sister Deborah's birthday. So we are going over to David's parents house tonight for a birthday dinner and cake and stuff. We got her an herb growing kit and another little plant because she loved to grow things in their greenhouse, so we thought she would have fun with it.

Well, right now David is watching The Phantom of the Opera on tv, the actual play version and not the movie, so I think I'm going to go watch it with him now and maybe play some James Bond on the 64 too since we have them on separate tvs in the same room.
